RICH LIFE RICH RULES

         RICH LIFE RICH RULE

1. Talk less, listen more-
People who can balance speaking and listening are usually successful in handling relationships and are rarely misunderstood. Each word has a meaning and a value hence they should be used very prudently.  Useless words only create noise. When we use them foolishly, or throwing them aimlessly just to grab someone’s attention we only create a commotion and it really does not help in making a healthy communication. Talk less, listen more is a golden rule for peaceful life.

2. Get out of the office on Time-
Here are 8 Tips to help you Get Out the Office Door On Time:
  1. Set a Goal – Know when you are leaving. If you have a set time that you are working towards, you can adjust your work to meet that goal.
  2. Set Hard Boundaries – When things start running over, don’t let them. Excuse yourself from that meeting on time. End that discussion when appropriate. Sheryl Sandberg (Facebook COO) is known for setting a hard-line that she leaves work at 5:30PM to get home with her kids.
  3. Set Expectations – Advance expectations can work magic. If others know that you need to leave on time, they are more likely to respect your time. This could meaning telling your team or boss in advance, that you need to depart at a certain time that day.
  4. Make An Appointment (With Yourself) – Leaving at the end of the day can be difficult, even from an etiquette standpoint. However, if you have an appointment, people tend to be understanding. You don’t have to say that it is a dinner with your significant other.
  5. Don’t Schedule Meetings at the End of the Day – Set aside the end of your day for admin, clean-up, and wrap-up. These are activities that you control. Meetings tend to run over. Don’t let meetings be the last thing on your daily calendar.
  6. Don’t Go Out For lunch – While fun, going out for lunch with the gang ends up punching a huge hole in your day. Don’t let the second half of your workday get derailed by an unexpected long lunch. Bring your lunch and if you finish early you can relax or get ahead on your afternoon.
  7. Start Early – Want to leave early? Try getting to work early. By arriving before others, you can get work done and be ahead of your todo list.
  8. Get your Deadlines Done Early – Attack those have-to-do tasks early. The ones that you must get done before leaving work. This will prevent you from getting stuck when you run out of time at the end of the day.
    3. Choose friends wisely-
A good friend is not someone who feels sorry for us or agrees with us when we feel like victims. A good friend is someone who reminds us that we are 100% responsible for our lives and that the power is within us to stop complaining and blaming. A good friend empowers us.                                                                                          Of course, real friendship is only possible when you are aware of yourself and the world around you. It is your decision to choose the friends who will not only make you happy but will help you grow into the person you were meant to be. So Choose your friends wisely.

4. Know when to stop-
As a manager or owner , you probably have to talk a lot. You want people to have the guidance and direction they need, of course, and there are plenty of situations where you need to speak your mind. But at some point, talking a lot can turn into overcommunicating. You can end up dominating conversations, which means employees’ perspectives aren’t being heard. To make sure you aren’t talking too much, listen as much as you speak. When someone raises a question in a meeting, invite others to weigh in before you. In fact, don’t contribute your thoughts until several other people have offered theirs. That way everyone is included and feels that their input is valued. You can also schedule regular one-on-one sessions with your team members to encourage open communication. Ask employees about their wants, needs, and concerns — and then hush. You may be surprised how much you learn when you’re saying nothing.

5. Never stop learning-
“There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an exam and finish with education. The whole of film, from the moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process of learning”
As they say, learning is a never-ending journey. From cradle to grave, we are in continuous cycle of learning new things. It is a necessary part of our life. Without learning new things, we will remain unaware of wonderful things in the world.
Learning is about enriching our minds, honing our skills, and changing the way we see the world and ourselves. It improves our behavior and the way we think by expanding and challenging our understanding.
Believe in yourself, take on your challenges and dig deep within yourself to conquer your fears. Never let anyone bring you down. You have to keep going. Learning is not restricted to a place or a deadline. It is a practice, a habit, a part of your daily routine and that’s what I am looking forward to do. I will surely apply these while leaning the new things during my professional and personal life. I will try to apply the Pomodoro technique. There are other takeaways like we have to think positive and making a to-do-list on daily basis, also there is an update for exercise that it helps in building the new neurons which help in solving the problems. We should remember that we can improve by taking small steps and these small steps will eventually lead to something grand.
So that i am still learning...!

7. Value your time-
4 Ways to Value Yourself by Valuing Your Time

There’s a reason why most successful people agree that time is their most valuable asset: Once it’s gone, it’s gone forever. Unlike money, you can’t earn more time.
Unfortunately, most of us undervalue the time we’ve been given. We waste it by putting others’ needs ahead of our own. We spend an entire weekend doing absolutely nothing. And we constantly get distracted by things that aren’t important.
Last year, a letter written by a dying young woman went viral. In it, she urged people to really live. It inspired me to start making decisions influenced by valuing my time.

a. Focus on the big picture.

With so many distractions thrown at us on a daily basis, it’s easy to lose sight of the big picture. This is unavoidable sometimes if you’re handling a business crisis or a family emergency. But if we constantly get distracted by things like social media, email and other people’s priorities, we become frustrated and stressed because we’re not attending to own wants and needs.
To make sure you stay focused on the big picture, ask yourself, What goals do I want to accomplish? What would I regret not achieving? What are your priorities? What makes you get out of bed every morning?
Answering these questions gives your life purpose. And when you have purpose, you’ll be motivated to focus and do everything you can to reach your maximum potential.

b. Plan how you want to spend your days.

Just imagine waking up on a day without any plans. Sometimes that’s a welcome change, like when you’re on vacation. But what if it was a Monday morning? With no to-do list, you might aimlessly wander the office until you feel like going home, letting pointless distractions control your schedule. What a waste of a day.
Even worse, by not planning out our days, we can’t make progress on the goals that will help materialize the big picture we have in mind. While you don’t need to plan out every minute of your day, you do need to have some structure around how you spend your time.
I spend my Sunday afternoons planning out my entire week, then I review my schedule every night before bed. This typically includes the three priorities I must accomplish each day, as well as blocks for things like meetings, email and family time. I also make it a point to pencil in specific times for self-care, which often includes exercise, reflection, learning or just taking five minutes to catch my breath.

c. Spend your time wisely.

We’ve all been guilty of wasting time. Instead of following the path of least resistance and binge-watching Netflix, squeeze the most from your minutes and prioritize. I prioritize my tasks via Google Calendar. Remember when you’re scheduling to put a “1” or “2” before a task so you naturally prioritize things that are double-booked.
Ideally, when you have free time, it should be spent on activities that are valuable, help you grow as a person or work toward your goals. For example: spending quality time with your loved ones, reading, learning a new skill, exercising, volunteering, organizing your office, updating your finances, or preparing for the week by laying out your clothes or prepping meals.

d. Let others know that your time is valuable.

Because time is your most valuable asset, you can’t be willing to give it away to others freely. It prevents you from prioritizing your own wants and needs. It’s like making deposits in everyone else’s bank accounts and never putting anything in your own.
Whether you realize it or not, here a few ways you’re signaling to others that your time isn’t valuable:
  • You say “yes” to everything. If you accept every request that comes your way, you’re putting other people’s priorities ahead of your own. Start saying “no” more often. It’s the simplest way to start accomplishing your goals.
  • You get easily distracted. You’re in the middle of deep work or just getting ready to start exercising when you receive a call, email, text or knock on your office door. You immediately stop what you’re doing. Those interruptions add up. Schedule specific times throughout the day to block out distractions by turning off your phone and closing the door.
  • You’re on-call 24/7. Thanks to smartphones, it’s expected that we answer an email or text as soon as it’s received. That’s just unacceptable—we all need time to disconnect. We can’t be “on” all the time without losing our edge. Establish boundaries, like office hours. If someone emails you at 7 p.m. on a Wednesday, they know there won’t be a response until later.
  • Stick to time limits. If you have a meeting scheduled for 30 minutes, that’s the length of the meeting. If you go over by 15 minutes, that delays working on what you had planned. It also tells other people their time isn’t important, either.
  • You allow tardiness. Whether you’re meeting a client for lunch or calling your financial planner at a scheduled time, make it clear that being late is unacceptable. When others disrespect your time, you lose time to work on your goals.
Once time is gone, it’s gone—that’s why it’s so important to use what you have well. The best approach to life is to “leave it all on the field,” and that means making sure you did all you could. Prioritize the things that matter most to you. Otherwise, they might never get done—and you’ll never know your true potential.
8. Read every day-
Here’s What Happens When You Read Every Day

A daily dose of reading can do wonders for your memory, health, and relationships.

You could boost your IQ

Bookworms, you’re in luck: Research suggests that children who are strong readers could become more intelligent adults. A decade-long study by the UK’s Society for Research in Child Development analyzed the cognitive development of nearly 2,000 sets of identical twins, comparing them by their reading skills and test scores. The results showed that the twin with the best early reading skills scored higher on intelligence tests as a teenager than his or her less literacy-inclined sibling. That said, you’re never too old to start reading one of the 100 books everyone has to read in their lifetime.

Your stress levels could go down

If you’re feeling stretched thin, a novel might be the best medicine. Reading for 30 minutes is as relaxing as doing 30 minutes of yoga, according to a 2009 study. Better yet, British researchers at the University of Sussex found that just six minutes of reading a day lowered participants’ stress levels by 68 percent; going for a walk, drinking a cup of tea or coffee, and listening to music were less effective by comparison. “It really doesn’t matter what book you read,” the study’s author said. “By losing yourself in a thoroughly engrossing book you can escape from the worries and stresses of the everyday world.”

Your vocabulary could improve

It’s the classic chicken-and-egg conundrum: Does a love for reading lead to a better vocabulary, or vice-versa? Back in the 1990s, leading researcher Keith Stanovich and his colleagues put this question to the test. Using the Author Recognition Test (ART) to measure their subjects’ reading skills, they found that people who read regularly had around a 50 percent larger vocabulary and 50 percent more fact-based knowledge, on average, compared to non-readers. Test your own vocab skills by taking the Princeton Review’s high school English quiz.

You might add years to your life

When researchers at Yale University tracked thousands of adults over the age of 50 for 12 years, they discovered that participants who read books for 30 minutes a day lived nearly two years longer than those who read magazines or newspapers. What’s more, those who read more than 3.5 hours per week were 23 percent less likely to die during the course of the study. The bottom line? “The benefits of reading books include a longer life in which to read them,” the researchers wrote.

You might become better at empathizing

In addition to improving your plain old IQ, reading may also boost your emotional IQ. A 2013 Harvard study found that volunteers who read literary fiction were better at identifying the emotions in facial expressions than those who read popular fiction, nonfiction, or nothing. Why, you ask? “The more fiction people read, the better they end up understanding the social world from simply observing subtle cues in their environment,” Maja Djikic, a psychologist at the University of Toronto, tells Readers’ Digest.

You will give your brain a workout

Forget crossword puzzles; for true cranial calisthenics, try cracking open a book. In a 2013 study published by the journal Brain Connectivity, college students who read a fictional story showed increased connectivity in the area of their brains associated with language and memory for up to five days later. Like building muscle memory when you run, reading every day can train your mind to activate and improve your cognitive functions, the study’s authors explained. We recommend “exercising” with one of these 18 classic books you can read in one day.

You can bond with your children

It’s no secret that reading to children can have a laundry list of benefits for their literacy skills, intelligence, and even future employment. But believe it or not, the type of book you read with them can make a difference, too. According to a 2019 study published in the journal Pediatrics, parents who read from printed books, rather than tablets or e-readers, have the most meaningful verbal and nonverbal interactions (and therefore the closest connections!) with their children.

Your risk of dementia could decrease

Having a rich vocabulary may keep your mind sharp as you age, according to a team at the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain. After evaluating the vocabulary test scores of more than 300 participants over the age of 50, the researchers found that volunteers with the highest scores had a three to four times lower risk of cognitive decline than those with the lower scores. But don’t stop there—reading is just one of the 50 everyday habits that can reduce your risk of dementia.
